Quilt Covers for Beds
Quilts are made from many different pieces of material pieced or patchworked together in traditional patterns or blocks. Traditionally, patches were cut from spare material or from used garments and so the pieces of fabric were often small and it was left to the maker's skill to assemble them into interesting patterns. Many of these designs have been used countless times and have aquired names. There are hundreds of these traditional block patterns and by using different combinations of blocks and materials, it is possible to produce countless variations.
Many of the blocks have names such as 'Maple Leaf' (see the example opposite). You will find many more examples on display in the Quilt Gallery. Some are simple and others have a great many different shaped pieces of material joined to make the complex and interesting designs.
In respecting the individual qualities of each piece of fabric, characteristic irregularities arise which give each quilt its unique charm.
